John 3:16

For God so loved the world
that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him
shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16

Yep, most of us have known this little verse FOREVER, but do we live it?  Within’ these simple words are such powerful truths… not only that, they contain the character and nature of God. This is pretty sobering for me — the more I really study it word by word by word — the more I realize how UNLIKE God I really am… gulp.

I have made it my mission to IMPROVE in the God-Qualities found within’ this profound verse…

Here’s 5 things that MUST increase in and through me (maybe you too):

1.  Amazing Love … for God so loved the world316

2.  Unlimited Generosity … that He gave His one & only son

3.  Total Acceptance … whosoever believes in Him

4.  Complete Forgiveness … shall not perish

5.  Eternal Perspective … have eternal life.

Can you imagine IF you lived daily with these five characteristics flourishing in and through you? I really want to see this grow more & more in me!

A few questions (number 1-4 in the comments):

    1. How long have you known this verse?
    2. How often do you think about it’s meaning?
    3. Which one (of my list of 5) needs the most improvement?
    4. Why do we take verses, like this, for granted?

Please share this blog post with a few friends (use social media buttons below) and let’s ALL bring John 3:16 to LIFE in us! EXCITING, right?!

Heart Like an Anvil!

Chilly —  February 29, 2016 — 3 Comments

I had a rough week.  Some difficult days and sleepless nights.  And, then a blizzard on top of it all! In the midst of tons of drama, the enemy took several cheap shots at my head and heart! He swings hard with every thing that he can (insults, threats, hurts and huge lies)! I’m not going to lie… it can take your breath away and cause you to feel abandoned and super vulnerable.  That’s why I MUST always trust my faith and not my feelings.  I’m not the first one to be attacked. And, I won’t be the first one to overcome! BOOM!!

I’ve found that it’s often in my most difficult times that I become MOST aware of the GREATNESS of my God!!

We ALL get pounded!

Hits can come from anywhere!  Physical attacks, unexpected disappointments, harsh & careless words, family drama, mind games, tough finances, abandonment of friends, suffering of others, lies, hate, poor choices, jealousy and straight-up meanness! Never forget, the devil hates you. He doesn’t back off when  you’re down or weak — he grabs a sledge hammer!

But, I know something…

The anvil outlasts the hammer.

anvil_and_hammer

God has built us to endure and overcome every blow of the enemy…

What if the Lord had not been on our side when people attacked us? They would have swallowed us alive in their burning anger. The waters would have engulfed us; a torrent would have overwhelmed us. Yes, the raging waters of their fury would have overwhelmed our very lives. Praise the Lord, who did not let their teeth tear us apart! We escaped like a bird from a hunter’s trap. The trap is broken, and we are free! Our help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Psalm 124:2-8

What if the Lord had not been on my side? Whoa, that’s a terrifying thought!! But, He was (and is)!

I’m unbreakable through His power & might! So swing the hammer – this anvil will outlast every hit!

Questions:
(in the comments, please answer)

1. How do you handle the pounding of unexpected pain, hate, drama or attacks?

2. Share a time when you were weak but HE was strong (see: 2 Corinthians 12:10).

3. When you get knocked down (spiritually, emotionally, etc) do you whine or win? Explain.

I’m praying, today, that God gives you (and me) faith like an anvil!  ~ Chilly

True Discipleship

Chilly —  February 11, 2016 — Leave a comment

In the Fall of 2016, I will be launching: //SpynOne — a 9 month, full time, high impact, hardcore, discipleship ministry. I am inviting post-high school students from around the world to invest ONE year of their life with me and my amazing team here in Lansing, Michigan! It will be the adventure of a lifetime!

… with this in mind,  I’m thinking, breathing, praying, talking and dreaming
about discipleship ALL the time.  Here’s a peak inside my heart and head …

  • Authentic discipleship MUST be more than a church program.
  • It must be more than a bullet list of required Bible verses, prayer routines and outreach events.
  • It can’t be contained in a book, classroom or church building.
  • It’s messy, difficult, painful, time consuming, demanding, lonely and thankless.
  • You’ll want to quit discipleship at some point. Most do in fact.
  • An authentic disciple of Christ is a soldier in active duty in a war against the greatest enemy of all time.
follow meIn John 6, right after the feeding 5,000+ people and walking on water, Jesus sits down with a large group of people who considered themselves to be disciples. He talked about how He was the bread of life — at this point you can almost hear the “amen’s” but He goes on to say that you can’t really be His disciple unless you eat his flesh and drink his blood. What?? Was He advocating cannibalism? Of course not! Jesus was saying that to be His follower, you must be willing to pay the same price that He was about to pay. LIFE. We must be completely expendable for God’s purpose and will. We must understand that it’s God who makes all things possible. Jesus laid it out there, He honestly made the cost clear and… “At this point many of His disciples turned away and deserted Him” (John 6:66).

They bailed… deserted… QUIT!

Overcoming Evil

Chilly —  February 10, 2016 — 3 Comments

Warning: This is a long post (a Bible Study).

You call yourself a hero, do you? Why boast about this crime of yours, you who have disgraced God’s people? All day long you plot destruction. Your tongue cuts like a sharp razor; you’re an expert at telling lies. You love evil more than good and lies more than truth… You love to say things that harm others, you liar! But God will strike you down once and for all. He will pull you from your home and drag you from the land of the living… The righteous will see it and be amazed. They will laugh and say, 7 “Look what happens to mighty warriors who do not trust in God. They trust their wealth instead and grow more and more bold in their wickedness.” 8 But I am like an olive tree, thriving in the house of God. I trust in God’s unfailing love forever and ever. I will praise you forever, O God, for what you have done. I will wait for your mercies in the presence of your people. Psalm 53

Revenge, vindication, retribution, vengeance, justice, and more… ugh!  Ahhhh, we’ve ALL wanted it, asked for it and dreamed of it! No one should be allowed to get away with hurting people, being insensitive, lyin’ like a rug, cruelty to kids and, especially, messin’ with God.  Yeah, yeah, yeah – I know, we all want to act like we only speak those “praiseworthy” statements found in Psalms but IF we’re honest, we get frustrated, ticked off, upset, hurt, heartbroken, bitter (and worse) – and when we do… LOOK OUT! Can you imagine IF others could hear our thoughts? YIKES!

OvercomeEvil_Tee_Design_grandeIn this psalm, David throws down and lets it ALL out. Right away, let me say something important: IF you’re gonna get mad and blow up (verbally), do it with God ALONE.  It IS possible to get angry and not sin — what a relief! Look how the Message puts it: “Go ahead and be angry. You do well to be angry – but don’t use your anger as fuel for revenge. And don’t stay angry. Don’t go to bed angry” (Ephesians 4:26). When you get angry in God’s presence it won’t last long because you will gain His perspective and understand “Who” is THE vindicator: God, and no one else. Plus, IF He deals too swiftly with the “wicked” – He’ll have to deal with our own wickedness… think about it. Can we trust His justice (and mercy)? Are we willing to wait for His timing? Is it possible to move forward when we don’t see God dealing with the issue?
