According to Barna Research Group (see attached article), Burlington, Vermont is the #1 most UNCHURCHED city in America! What better place to rethink how we do church and offer a collaborative opportunity for communities, families and churches to come together for the sake of their teenagers and young adults? We are not seeking to abandon existing churches but, instead, to provide a unified, off-site, setting for students to build friendships, receive love, encouragement and hope. We will also provide a judgement free environment for students to explore the outrageous claims of Christ with honest, unfiltered curiosity! These types of opportunities are difficult in smaller church, youth group, settings.

What if you were told that there was a well-researched and statistically proven program that can:
- Increase the average life expectancy of your children by 8 years
- Significantly reduce their use and risk from Alcohol, Tobacco and Drugs
- Dramatically lower their risk of suicide
- Help them rebound from depression 70% faster
- Dramatically reduce their risk for committing a crime
- Improve their attitude at school and increase their school participation
- Reduce their risk for rebelliousness
- Reduce the likelihood that they would binge drink in college
- Improve their odds for a “very happy” life
- Provide them with a life-long moral compass
- And get them to wear their seat-belts more often
Would you be interested? Sound impossible? Could there possibly be such a program?
Yes, there is.
And it is supported by research from Duke University, Indiana University, The University of Michigan, The Center for Disease Control, Barna Research Group, and the National Institute for Healthcare Research.
How much would a program like this be worth to you?
What if I told you it was free, and that it would only take about 2 hours each week?
Take a look at the list again.
It’s not a dream and you don’t need to travel to some exotic location.
You ready for the answer? OK, here it is (drum roll please)…
The program is called “active church participation.”
That’s right, CHURCH! In study, after study, after study, children & teenagers who actively engage in a faith community on a regular basis are rewarded with SIGNIFICANTLY reduced likelihood of problems and risks, and significantly improved odds of a happier, healthier, longer life. These studies show the same results for adults as well. Now, add to those specific and proven rewards to our life – the eternal blessings that follow. Wow!
Today many people across our country and throughout the world will find themselves wearing green and eventually drunk all in the name of ‘saint patrick‘. Yet, most are clueless as to who he was, what he really did, and why celebration began…
First, a few misconceptions about Patrick:
Patrick isn’t really a Saint with a capital S, having never been officially canonized by Rome. No, Patrick was protestant and a few trips to Belfast, Northern Ireland (as I have done many times) will clearly remind you that this is a touchy subject. Also, there’s the “snake myth” – ha – Patrick couldn’t have driven the snakes out of Ireland because there were never any snakes there to begin with. He wasn’t even the first evangelist to Ireland (Palladius had been sent in 431, about five years before Patrick went).
Patrick isn’t even Irish. It is believed by many that he was from what’s now Dumbarton, Scotland (just northwest of Glasgow). And, he definitely didn’t look like this picture!
It’s almost 70º today in Detroit! After enduring the coldest February in 140 years, today feels like mid-summer! And, you can already see tulips and daffodils pushing above the soil. Now is the time that many people find themselves on their hands and knees digging, planting, weeding, watering… you get the picture. We’re exchanging snow shovels for garden spades! It’s time to garden. New flowers and fresh plants just seem to make everything look better.
I’ve been thinking a lot about my life becoming God’s garden. I desire new life to push through the cold winter soil of my heart like tulips. Yes, to open my life towards the warm Son and produce a pure, beautiful rose-like aroma that touches the senses of my Lord. Love refuses to remain dormant beneath the surface – that is IF it’s real love: God’s Love. My dear children, let’s not just talk about love; let’s practice real love. 1 John 3:18 msg.
Practice it, huh? That means there’s still work to be done…
I must prepare… I must labor… I must love.
Gone are the roots of bitterness! Farewell to the weeds of compromise! I must burn the remnants of previous blossoms!
Then as I allow the seeds of truth, correction and purpose to go beneath the surface, I die to self and allow His newness to begin working in me, through me and out from me to others.
Labor has produced Life.
Humility has produced Hope.
Death has produced Destiny.
Now, I must tend this garden – for the enemy will never concede the loss. No, he will send the weeds, insects, and drought. I must remain steadfast & strong. It’s good to know that the Spirit loves the garden even more than me and He will guide my efforts and empower my labors.
So throw all spoiled virtue and cancerous evil in the garbage. In simple humility, let our gardener, God, landscape you with the Word, making a salvation-garden of your life. James 1:21 msg.
trusting my Gardner, Chilly
