“If you dig in and fight the changes, they will smash you to bits. They’ll hold you under, drag you across the rough sand, scare and confuse you. But if you can find it within yourself, in the wildest moment, to trust in the goodness of God, who made it all and holds it all together, you’ll find yourself drawn along to a whole new place. And there’s truly nothing sweeter than to unclench your fists, unlock your knees, and also the door to your heart; to take a deep breath and begin to swim. Begin to let the waves do their work within you.”  – Shauna Niequist

Riding the Waves

We spend WAY too much time doing things that we would  NEVER want to be doing when Christ returns.

Have we forgotten why He saved us? Did we EVER know why?

Or, perhaps, we’ve lost sight of the exhilaration found in doing His work – our destiny – with all of our hearts! We entertain ourselves with tv, music, movies, video games, social networking and other mind-numbing activities — then find ourselves too tired, apathetic and depressed to have devotions and truly live. That’s awful!

The great puritan preacher, Jonathan Edwards, put it this way:

Resolved, never to do anything which I would
afraid to do if it were the last hour of my life.

BOOM! What a Challenge! Are YOU up for it?? What will have to change about the way you THINK and LIVE for this to happen??

Determined to improve!

Death Wish

He asks nothing but death,

and you desire nothing but life.

How can you put up to Him a prayer for his grace, with a restriction that He shall only send it by a channel demanding no sacrifice on your part but ministering to the gratification of your carnal pride?
–  François Fénelon

dietoselfThere’s a simple fact that I find my self quoting quite often: you can’t get the right answer IF you don’t ask the right question. We want all of God’s blessings & grace but we’re unwilling to live a life of sacrifice and honor. We solemnly confess: “God, I want to know your will for my life” — how can He possibly answer this question? His desire is that you lose your life and follow His will — yes,  join Him in what He’s doing and not the other way around. The TRUE Christian life is an awesome adventure filled with adrenalin-rushing passion, heart-pounding prayer, character-developing solitude and excruciating obedience. You must pay the price to be REAL. No short-cuts, no exceptions and no excuses!

Jesus put it this way:  “Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat; I am. Don’t run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I’ll show you how. “ Matthew 16:24 (MSG)

Dying to self is not a figurative & religious tag-line or motto… it’s a literal requirement for discipleship. Life is tied to it… Suffering is a certain reality – flesh never wants to die. But, pain is weakness leaving the body. No one should be foolish and subject themselves to ‘punishment’ to expedite the process – that’s not how it happens.  Dying to self is the process of submission – completely & quickly – to our Lord’s perfect will.  An increase in His presence and His Word fine tunes it… and trust me, IF you don’t want to die to selfyou won’t…  your spiritual sounding allibi will be supported by the masses who, like you, want the appearance of holiness but without the power.

Knee Deep

A few quotes I’m reading today…

“I lack the fervency, vitality, life, in prayer which I long for. I know that many consider it fanaticism when they hear anything which does not conform to the conventional, sleep-inducing eulogies so often rising from Laodicean lips; but I know too that these same people can acquiescently tolerate sin in their lives and in the church without so much as tilting one hair of their eyebrows.” Jim Elliot

“Important as it is that we recognize God working in us, I would yet warn against an over preoccupation with the thought. It is a sure road to sterile passivity. God will not hold us responsible to understand the mysteries of election, predestination and the divine sovereignty. The best and safest way to deal with these truths is to raise our eyes to God and in deepest reverence say, Oh Lord Thou knowest. Those things belong to the deep and mysterious Profound of God’s omniscience. Prying into them may make theologians, but it will never make saints.” A.W. Tozer

“What the Church needs to-day is not more machinery or better, not new organizations or more and novel methods, but men whom the Holy Ghost can use — men of prayer, men mighty in prayer. The Holy Ghost does not flow through methods, but through men. He does not come on machinery, but on men. He does not anoint plans, but men, men of prayer.” E.M. Bounds

“He Himself is the fuel our spirits were designed to burn, or the food our spirits were designed to feed on. There is no other.” C.S. Lewis

I must strive for a deeper passion that pours from a deeper prayer life…
and, it’s on my knees where the deeper depths are found.
