Two basic principles:
1. Change is Inevitable
2. Everyone Resists Change.
We often cry out for change but rarely do we do anything about it. We’re bored, dissatisfied, depressed or bummed-out… yet we sit & whine – doing nothing – being nothing … that’s sad (and pretty lame).
It’s only the view from where you sit that makes you feel defeated. Life is full of many aisles, so why don’t you change your seat?
Obviously, change is a big topic for many of us here in Detroit. We are shifting our Midtown campus to our brand new church in Mexicantown in a few weeks! … gulp! This new venture will become our Detroit campus and we believe it will enable us to draw people from all over the Detroit Metro area as well as impact this unique community! Crazy huge step for us!
I think one of the dangers – even w/ those on my own team – can be focusing on how change will affect us. We fail to pray for others – especially for those about to be changed - because we’re so obsessed with how it makes us feel and what it will do in us.
It’s also really easy to become stingy with our finances until we see what happens (and if we approve). But, God wants us to have generous faith! To give courageously! Everything we have is HIS, right??
Nervousness or restlessness is not a permission-slip to be lazy, careless, apathetic or lethargic. People who wait for changes to occur on the outside, before they commit to making changes on the inside, usually never make any changes at all.
Long ago you laid the foundation of the earth and made the heavens with your hands. 26 They will perish, but you remain forever; they will wear out like old clothing. You will change them like a garment and discard them. 27 But you are always the same; you will live forever. Psalm 102:25-27
– yeah, so HE will change you but HE will NEVER change! Cool!
Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. James 1:17
— God doesn’t change, but He changes US! And, boy, do we need it!
Embrace change. Pray for it. Remain watchful, open, unselfish & encouraging! And, don’t sit around waiting just because you know change is coming. Serve, love, share, grow, smile … LIVE!
Remember this: When you are through changing… you’re through!!
SO much is about to be new & different in my life. And, for me, it’s not about making a New Year’s resolution but rather a New You resolution! I must embrace CHANGE!
Refuse to focus on how you’re going to start something new and totally blow-off what you should be doing right now.
Well, those are my ‘change’ thoughts. I’m done.
… feelin’ the NEXT but focused on the NOW, Chilly
Q: Where are you at with all of this?
