John 3:16

For God so loved the world
that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him
shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16

Yep, most of us have known this little verse FOREVER, but do we live it?  Within’ these simple words are such powerful truths… not only that, they contain the character and nature of God. This is pretty sobering for me — the more I really study it word by word by word — the more I realize how UNLIKE God I really am… gulp.

I have made it my mission to IMPROVE in the God-Qualities found within’ this profound verse…

Here’s 5 things that MUST increase in and through me (maybe you too):

1.  Amazing Love … for God so loved the world316

2.  Unlimited Generosity … that He gave His one & only son

3.  Total Acceptance … whosoever believes in Him

4.  Complete Forgiveness … shall not perish

5.  Eternal Perspective … have eternal life.

Can you imagine IF you lived daily with these five characteristics flourishing in and through you? I really want to see this grow more & more in me!

A few questions (number 1-4 in the comments):

    1. How long have you known this verse?
    2. How often do you think about it’s meaning?
    3. Which one (of my list of 5) needs the most improvement?
    4. Why do we take verses, like this, for granted?

Please share this blog post with a few friends (use social media buttons below) and let’s ALL bring John 3:16 to LIFE in us! EXCITING, right?!

Back in the Race!

Chilly —  February 8, 2016 — 2 Comments

Fresh starts are AWESOME! Last night, we had the amazing opportunity to pray with over 25 students who invited Christ to come into their lives as Lord and Savior! BOOM! I love these moments!  But, if we’re not careful we begin to think (and act) like accepting Christ is the finish line rather than the starting line! It’s a beginning!  And, now the race becomes exciting!

We’re into our 2nd month of 2016 and maybe some of us have already dropped the ball on some New Year’s resolutions or goals.  SO WHAT?! Refuse to quit or feel sorry for yourself. Get up and get going fresh & new TODAY… RIGHT NOW! IF you’re still breathing, than the race isn’t over — RUN!

blogrunningprogI don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. Philippians 3:12-14

The best way to forget about what’s behind is to pursue what’s ahead!

I want to help you (and me) enjoy the Christian Life WAY MORE than I ever have before!   Continue Reading…

Sunscreen & Sunglasses

a few vacation thoughts…

sunscreen&sunglasses

Sunscreen.

I love going to the beach! LOVE IT! And, yet there’s something about going to the beach that I hate! Yeah, I do it, but I hate it… applying sunscreen! Especially, when there’s 6 other people needing it (in varying degrees of protection: SPF 50, 30, 15, etc). The process takes us 15 minutes or more — and, then, at some point on the beach we must reapply — but by this 2nd time we’re sort of gritty from the sand.

As much as I dislike applying sunscreen, I DO IT. I hate sunburn FAR worse! And, I’m also aware that neglect today could result in much greater problems later: skin cancer. We don’t think about cancer when we’re younger — sunburn is just how we start our tans. Stupid, right?!

It’s easy as Christians to be careless and stupid when it comes to exposing our hearts and minds to the sins and dangers of the world. We’ve all been burned and damaged by the fiery attack from the enemy. We need to apply protection – daily (or more) and liberally.

I know some that choose to live in the shadows with pale faith — fearing worldly damage so much that they avoid lost people all together. That’s not God’s plan. No, we must put on the protection provided and then get out there and make a difference. Find the sunscreen here:

“Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11( read: v. 12-18)
– Also read: 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

Don’t become lazy or indifferent by forgetting to reapply. We need the power of the Holy Spirit that comes through DAILY (or more) application of God’s Word and authentic prayer.

Sunglasses.

The other thing we need to enjoy a day on the beach is sunglasses. This year I purchased a pair of sunglasses that are super dark — designed specifically, to protect from sun reflection on the ocean (water).

Sunglasses do 2 primary things: they protect our eyes from damage. Did you know you can sunburn your eyes — OUCH! And, sunglasses, help us focus. You see better when the glare is diverted and your not forced to squint through watery eyes.

The lenses of our ‘sunglasses’ should be God’s Love. When we see others through these lenses — everything becomes more clear and beautiful. What comes through them — like damaging sun, is filtered into vivid clarity. We are protected from insecurity, fear, doubt and hurt. And, then when we look back out through the love of God, we see ONLY good.

Looking through these lenses should also cause us to stop being so selfish, judgmental and rude.

“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. 5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” Philippians 2:3-5

Sometimes Sunscreen and Sunglasses may seem over-the-top or unnecessary, but they protect and preserve you. And, now, each time you use them, perhaps you’ll be reminded of God’s Armor & God’s Love — wear BOTH daily!
