Time 4 Change

Chilly —  June 13, 2015 — Leave a comment

Embracing-changeMy family and I are on vacation for a few weeks… so this seems like the perfect time to make a BIG change!

I’m SUPER HONORED by all of you who faithfully read, subscribe and share iChilly.com! With this in mind, we are going to TOTALLY redesign the site: this will include adding podcasts, videos, new posts and guest bloggers. My heart is to create a page specifically designed to provide discipleship, mentorship and leadership opportunities to people at ANY stage of maturity in Christ.  Hope this sounds fun!

SO, we are taking down iChilly.com until early July.  We’ll let you know (via social media) as soon as the site is up!

THANKS FOR YOUR FRIENDSHIP, LOYALTY & PATIENCE!

“If you dig in and fight the changes, they will smash you to bits. They’ll hold you under, drag you across the rough sand, scare and confuse you. But if you can find it within yourself, in the wildest moment, to trust in the goodness of God, who made it all and holds it all together, you’ll find yourself drawn along to a whole new place. And there’s truly nothing sweeter than to unclench your fists, unlock your knees, and also the door to your heart; to take a deep breath and begin to swim. Begin to let the waves do their work within you.”  – Shauna Niequist

special thanks to my daughter Courtney for showing me this quote.

Cha-Cha-Cha-Change!

WELCOME to 2015!

I’m really excited for a NEW opportunity to grow, learn, love and CHANGE!

2014 was a crazy, whirl-wind, type of year. So many things happened. God was SO good! And, WOW, I’m so pumped about the NEW things He’s about to do in and through my life (and all of you)! Change is a good GREAT thing! There’s so much to learn through change!

Two basic principles:

1. Change is Inevitable

2. Everyone Resists Change.

changeWe often cry out for change but rarely do we do anything about it. We’re bored, dissatisfied, depressed or bummed-out… yet we sit & whine – doing nothing – being nothing … that’s sad (and pretty lame). Well, it’s January 1st, 2015 — there’s NEVER been a better time to change! IF not now, then when??

It’s only the view from where you sit that makes you feel defeated. Life is full of many aisles, so why don’t you change your seat? Seriously, get up! Move! Begin seeing from a new perspective!

Obviously, change is a big topic for many of us here in Detroit.

I think one of the dangers can be focusing on how change will affect us. We fail to pray for others – especially for those about to be changed – because we’re so obsessed with how it makes us feel and what it will do in us.

It’s also really easy to become stingy with our gifts — you know, our time, abilities and finances until we see what happens (and if we approve). But, God wants us to have generous faith! To give courageously! Everything we have is HIS, right?

Nervousness or restlessness is not a permission-slip to be lazy, careless, apathetic or lethargic. People who wait for changes to occur on the outside, before they commit to making changes on the inside, usually never make any changes at all.  Continue Reading…

Prophet Loss

Chilly —  May 21, 2014 — 7 Comments

speak-the-truthJohn the Baptist was a stud! So was Samuel, Elijah, Elisha, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Paul and, of course, our Lord!  They were given a Word to speak and an audience to speak it to – and, they stepped up and fearlessly spoke (and lived) it clearly. No, not as some religious salesman or angry mega-phoned hater – they were NEVER jerks. But, they were also, NEVER wimps. They refused to hide behind words like: relevant, seeker-sensitive or even, missional. They didn’t care about fitting in with all the other cool dudes trying to make Jesus organically & authentically hip. They lived loud. They completed their mission. No apologies, No compromise, No excuses, No regrets.

So, Where You At Prophets?!

I’ve been asking God to broaden my vision and increase my boldness. I know… it probably sounds like a bunch of spiritual-sounding crap.  But, I’m not talking about some ‘prayer of Jabez’ deal – there’s not a simple phrase or mantra that we recite once a day and then magically we’re bolder, richer or happier!

I don’t think we should ask God for greater insight and awareness to His Spirit’s leading IF we are not willing to act upon such knowledge. Risky? Yes. For true prophets are not only those who have a grasp of the future but also, and more importantly, those that see the NOW. Many Christians today run from church to church looking for a “word” – something sweet & promising.  Yet, most are not looking for the truth about their hearts & minds – they don’t want rebuke for their current condition. But what is more needed? Back in the OT, they didn’t a smile when a prophet came to town… they knew a hard Word was coming – but, IF followed, it could bring healing, rescue and lots of hope!  Continue Reading…
