Heart Like an Anvil!

Chilly —  February 29, 2016 — 3 Comments

I had a rough week.  Some difficult days and sleepless nights.  And, then a blizzard on top of it all! In the midst of tons of drama, the enemy took several cheap shots at my head and heart! He swings hard with every thing that he can (insults, threats, hurts and huge lies)! I’m not going to lie… it can take your breath away and cause you to feel abandoned and super vulnerable.  That’s why I MUST always trust my faith and not my feelings.  I’m not the first one to be attacked. And, I won’t be the first one to overcome! BOOM!!

I’ve found that it’s often in my most difficult times that I become MOST aware of the GREATNESS of my God!!

We ALL get pounded!

Hits can come from anywhere!  Physical attacks, unexpected disappointments, harsh & careless words, family drama, mind games, tough finances, abandonment of friends, suffering of others, lies, hate, poor choices, jealousy and straight-up meanness! Never forget, the devil hates you. He doesn’t back off when  you’re down or weak — he grabs a sledge hammer!

But, I know something…

The anvil outlasts the hammer.

God has built us to endure and overcome every blow of the enemy…

What if the Lord had not been on our side when people attacked us? They would have swallowed us alive in their burning anger. The waters would have engulfed us; a torrent would have overwhelmed us. Yes, the raging waters of their fury would have overwhelmed our very lives. Praise the Lord, who did not let their teeth tear us apart! We escaped like a bird from a hunter’s trap. The trap is broken, and we are free! Our help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Psalm 124:2-8

What if the Lord had not been on my side? Whoa, that’s a terrifying thought!! But, He was (and is)!

I’m unbreakable through His power & might! So swing the hammer – this anvil will outlast every hit!

(in the comments, please answer)

1. How do you handle the pounding of unexpected pain, hate, drama or attacks?

2. Share a time when you were weak but HE was strong (see: 2 Corinthians 12:10).

3. When you get knocked down (spiritually, emotionally, etc) do you whine or win? Explain.

I’m praying, today, that God gives you (and me) faith like an anvil!  ~ Chilly

Keep Us Little

Chilly —  September 26, 2014 — 3 Comments

So much of ‘today’s ministry’ seems BIG & BOLD – every service is a TV-ready performance choreographed down to the last second. Videos, intelligent lighting, 20 member worship band, gourmet lattes and hip leaders. I guess you can’t argue with the results, right? They’re growing & doing great things. This is not a post to rip on them – or anyone… But, what about the rest of ‘us’ without the big budget, cool buildings or paid staff?

Can we reach people without all this stuff? Can we make disciples without a video class? What if we can never afford to fly to a big conference or pay another pastor to ‘coach’ us? Can we still succeed? What if our ‘theology’ doesn’t receive the approval of the reformed or the anointing of the revived? Can we still love hurting people? Can we be effective if we don’t wear the right clothes or have the right hair style? Will you keep doing what you’re doing when the haters make you their poster child?

Does an unchurched person even notice half the
things we try to do to impress them? Hmmm

My Take on Haters

Chilly —  August 18, 2014 — Leave a comment

A:  I love them.

– I’m sorry that they are unhappy.

– I wish they didn’t choose to gossip, blame or remain hurt.

– I’ve probably done lots of things that, to a carnal heart, deserve hate.

Sigh… please forgive me… again.

– Forgiveness really does work.

– Giving the benefit of the doubt may seem naive but it works too.

– Unconditional love works even better.

– Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t move on … just do it right (and quietly).

– Grace.

– Someone else has it FAR worse than you. Be thankful. Love others.

“No mature Christian who is seasoned in the Word has
any right to live offended.”
Pastor Brian Houston, Hillsong

One last thing:
(in case you missed it)

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful
or proud
or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable,
and it keeps no record of being wronged.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-5

Why blame?

Chilly —  April 1, 2014 — 6 Comments

“Tuesday Why” is a NEW feature of — here’s today’s:

ScrabbleWhyWhy do we focus on the mistakes or hurts that leaders have done ‘to us’ but totally forget all of the good they have done?  Why talk unkindly about them? How can we shift from bitter to better?

Let’s discuss this in the comments.
