Archives For intercession

I love the Bible! Seriously, I LOVE IT! I especially love to read it late at night when everyone else is asleep and things are quiet & peaceful. In these times, I feel like I’m sitting alone with God, hearing Him speak just to me. I meditate on what God is saying – really listening with my heart.  Knowledge speaks, Wisdom listens.  And, man, do I want (need) wisdom! For this reason, I find myself in the book of Proverbs almost daily!

Here’s something that really spoke to my heart yesterday:

My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment, do not let them out of your sight; they will be life for you… Then you will go on your way in safety and your foot will not stumble; when you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet” Proverbs 3:21-24.

thenSo many times in Scripture there is a “then.” Unfortunately we don’t always bother to go back and find out what the “then” is referring to. In these verses, from Proverbs, there is a “then” right in the middle, and IF we’re not careful, we will only remember what is promised and omit what is required. I was super tempted to do this myself… allow me to explain:   Continue Reading…

What I Do Late at Night

Come, praise the Lord, all his servants, all who serve in his Temple at night.  Raise your hands in prayer in the Temple, and praise the Lord!  May the Lord, who made heaven and earth, bless you from Zion! Psalm 134:1-3 (read again… and, again)

I must admit, these three verses intrigue me! Yes, obviously, because I am one who finds myself night after night seeking the Lord while others are sleeping peacefully. It encourages me to know blessings are promised to those called to the night-shift of servanthood…

latenight-1But, I am also drawn to this verse on a broader scale. I believe that the “night” (v.1) not only pertains to late, late in the evening but also to those seasons in our lives when things seem hopeless, scary, uncertain and lonely – yes, very dark. Few are willing to serve when things get bad and people lose hope.

I desire to be a servant of the Almighty in the darkest, most ominous, and utterly hopeless times. The light shines brightest just before dawn! Our culture has abandoned truth and believes in nothing… can’t get much darker than that. This is our time to be found serving in the “night”!

Light shines on the godly, and joy on those who do right. Psalm 97:11

The light shines through the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. John 1:5
~ note: this verse pertains directly to Jesus (who lives & shines in us)!!

Read Psalm 134:1-3 (at the top) one more time. Here’s the applicationyou can’t have the blessings (v.3) without late-night serving (v.1) and dead-to-self worship (v.2). BOOM!

Turn Insomnia into Intercession.

… up late on purpose, Chilly

Q: Are you in a ‘night’ or ‘dark’ season of life? How do you keep the light ON?

more than words.

When you put on your next prayer-performance, I’ll be looking the other way. No matter how long or loud or often you pray, I’ll not be listening. And do you know why? Because you’ve been tearing people to pieces, and your hands are bloody (Isaiah 1:15 msg).

Listen, if you’re gonna pray, pray for REAL! Confess, repent, listen, die to self and stop treating people like crap… which may bring you back to the repent part. And, then, fight to love God with every cell in your body. Don’t bail out early. Change.
