Archives For Journal

Chilly —  June 21, 2016 — 8 Comments

Ahhhhh, it’s almost the end of June! Yeah, ok, technically yesterday was just the first day of summer but WOW, it feels like it’s already 1/3 over! There’s so much I want to accomplish!  It’s during times like this that I strive to recalibrate (term I learned from my engineer friends) by life to make sure I’m being efficient, accurate and effective. I don’t want summer to blow by and then look back thinking, “I should have… ” — So, today I’m looking at my calendar, scanning through my journal and praying for clarity. I want my life to count.

I’m ready to write down whatever God brings to my heart. This will help me accomplish the things God is revealing. And, trust me, there’s some crazy HUGE things God is stirring in my heart right now! I’m seeking God HARD to discover His timing and strategy — no time to be passive… I don’t want to just be close, I want to HIT THE BULLSEYE!

This means it’s time to set some new goals!

A Goal is a Dream with a Deadline.

It’s important, for me, to be sure that I’m set-up for success by putting the right things into my life. Here’s a few things I’m thinking about today… please take a moment and share.

Let’s be transparent!

Let’s grow this summer!

Let’s be Courageous!

In the comments, number 1-7 and answer the following:

  1. What book are you reading right now (besides Bible)? Recommend it?
  2. What music album is your favorite right now? Why?
  3. Do you write in a journal? How frequent? How personal is it?
  4. When do you pray and read your Bible each day?
  5. What is your fitness goal(s) for the summer? Do you work out and/or diet?
  6. How much silence to you get each day where you think/dream/meditate?
  7. Who is your mentor? Do they know it? How’s do you pursue this?

Let’s WIN all summer long!

a transparent moment…

… a little list from tonight’s journal.

1.  I want God to fix the world, but He wants to fix me.

time is a bomb … pull the pin & run!

2.  I pray for ease, but He gives endurance.

3.  I keep trying to improve to impress Him, but He’s not impressed.

4.  I call it faith, but He calls it fraud.

5.  I’m trying to add Him to my life, but He’s waiting for me to die.

6.  I worship with songs & sermons, but He wants discipline & dedication.

7.  I read the Word to learn, but He wants me to read the Word to live.

8.  I think …  ummm …  oh, nevermind.

I’m a work in progress… asking the Lord to be LORD.

In the Comments: share your take on any of these thoughts, OR if you’re more daring; how about sharing a transparent thought of your own?

Why do I journal?

Chilly —  January 31, 2014 — 1 Comment

Last night I had the honor and opportunity to do some online teaching for Valley Forge Christian College. I served as the Director of Youth Ministries for VFCC from 2000-2002, so it means a lot to still be asked to invest in future leaders!

The primary topic of my teaching time was on the subject of journaling and devotions.
Here’s a peek at some of my thoughts on “Why I journal”
Write these things for the future so that people who
are not yet born will praise the Lord.
Psalm 102:18
  • We wouldn’t have a Bible if people of God had not journaled.
  • It shows respect to God when we study and pray
  • I want to live accountable.
  • I want to always be teachable. Lifetime learner!
  • I want to leave a history.
  • I want my sermons to flow through me not around me.
  • It keeps me sane.
  • It’s my greatest source of encouragement.
  • I write to remember.
  • I write to obey.
Don’t pray for sermons, let sermons come from your prayers
So, as long as I’m meeting with God, I will always have something to say.
The years will teach you what the days never will. ~ Jeanne Mayo
I hope this has been encouraging and helpful. In the comments, tell us about your journal. Looking forward to it!

Words & Phrases

Chilly —  May 10, 2012 — 26 Comments

Today has been one of those days where I had the time to round-up all the wild thoughts & ideas that have been running through my heart & head; and try to make some sense of them! So, I simply wrote down words & phrases, in no particular order, and added a little commentary. It’s GOOD to know why you do what you do or believe what you believe.

So, here’s a sneak peek into my personal journal as I write out a few words or phrases that define (or, at least, should define) my life & mission:

  • Love
    — this is a verb. let God’s love explode inside & out
  • Always Learn Something
    — When I read the Bible, have a conversation, sit in an airport, etc — look, listen, LEARN!
  • Fight for Hope
  • —  nothing is EVER beyond Christ’s power.
  • Kiss More
    — I will ALWAYS kiss my daughters AND sons (on the lips)! And, a confession, I don’t kiss my wife enough.
  • Pray Hard
    — pray until something happens (PUSH). you’re never done until there’s joy!
  • Play Hard
    — we need exercise & fun. do something that makes your heart pound every day!
  • Embrace Transparency
    — being vulnerable protects you from living a double-life. BE real.
  • Search for Potential
    —  God has made EVERYONE for a purpose. Find it! Promote it!
  • Make Friends
    — in ministry, we are often warned about being close w/ people. I’ll risk the burn to gain a brother!
  • Stay Curious
    — it’s amazing what you discover by simply wondering ‘why?’
  • Be Merciful
    — I need lots of mercy, so I give it out by the bucket full.
  • Don’t Hate Work
    — there’s NO way around it, everything good requires lots of work.
  • Choose Joy
    — Laugh more. No matter what  your situation is, you have Jesus! SMILE!
  • Make Disciples
    — MUST be deliberate and OUTSIDE of ‘church duties’. Why? Jesus told us to do it!
  • Journal
    — write stuff down! keep a record of your journey – it will keep you thankful, focused & sane. And, if you’re really daring, blog it!
  • NEVER Quit
    — you’ll want to, ‘they’ will say you should, it will feel like it’s the right thing to do… DON’T.
