Heart Like an Anvil!

Chilly —  February 29, 2016 — 3 Comments

I had a rough week.  Some difficult days and sleepless nights.  And, then a blizzard on top of it all! In the midst of tons of drama, the enemy took several cheap shots at my head and heart! He swings hard with every thing that he can (insults, threats, hurts and huge lies)! I’m not going to lie… it can take your breath away and cause you to feel abandoned and super vulnerable.  That’s why I MUST always trust my faith and not my feelings.  I’m not the first one to be attacked. And, I won’t be the first one to overcome! BOOM!!

I’ve found that it’s often in my most difficult times that I become MOST aware of the GREATNESS of my God!!

We ALL get pounded!

Hits can come from anywhere!  Physical attacks, unexpected disappointments, harsh & careless words, family drama, mind games, tough finances, abandonment of friends, suffering of others, lies, hate, poor choices, jealousy and straight-up meanness! Never forget, the devil hates you. He doesn’t back off when  you’re down or weak — he grabs a sledge hammer!

But, I know something…

The anvil outlasts the hammer.

God has built us to endure and overcome every blow of the enemy…

What if the Lord had not been on our side when people attacked us? They would have swallowed us alive in their burning anger. The waters would have engulfed us; a torrent would have overwhelmed us. Yes, the raging waters of their fury would have overwhelmed our very lives. Praise the Lord, who did not let their teeth tear us apart! We escaped like a bird from a hunter’s trap. The trap is broken, and we are free! Our help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Psalm 124:2-8

What if the Lord had not been on my side? Whoa, that’s a terrifying thought!! But, He was (and is)!

I’m unbreakable through His power & might! So swing the hammer – this anvil will outlast every hit!

(in the comments, please answer)

1. How do you handle the pounding of unexpected pain, hate, drama or attacks?

2. Share a time when you were weak but HE was strong (see: 2 Corinthians 12:10).

3. When you get knocked down (spiritually, emotionally, etc) do you whine or win? Explain.

I’m praying, today, that God gives you (and me) faith like an anvil!  ~ Chilly

It Happens.

Sometimes people say and/or do really mean and hurtful stuff. It rocks our world. It exposes our insecurity. We feel betrayed, wounded, alone and unwanted. And, the more we focus on the offense, the deeper it sinks into our hearts. Then, words like: unfair, untrue or undeserved leap to the forefront of our minds. We allow ourselves to become victims. We communicate to our ‘trusted friends’ how we have been wounded. Yet, their pity does little to help…

Insults, accusations, backstabbing …  IT HAPPENS!

What if we didn’t fear it or try to stop it? What if we didn’t defend ourselves? What if we embraced it?

Love>Hate copyPersecution or opposition is a mark of every true Christian… The Old Testament prophets like Amos, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel; all experienced it. So did the New Testament apostles. And down through the centuries, including today, authentic Christians who refuse to distort or dilute the gospel of grace have had to suffer for their faithfulness. The good news of Christ crucified is still a ‘scandal’ (Greek, “skandalon” = stumbling-block), grievously offensive to the pride of our generation.

I’m NOT suggesting that we pursue “IT” — that would be insanity — but, if we’re real, we WILL experience it.  We won’t have to pick a fight — attack upon our lives, families and character are unavoidable. But as we stand up and through such an onslaught, Christ’s power becomes more and more evident to the cynical & sarcastic culture hiding in the shadows of a lie.  Continue Reading…
