Archives For Proverbs

I love the Bible! Seriously, I LOVE IT! I especially love to read it late at night when everyone else is asleep and things are quiet & peaceful. In these times, I feel like I’m sitting alone with God, hearing Him speak just to me. I meditate on what God is saying – really listening with my heart.  Knowledge speaks, Wisdom listens.  And, man, do I want (need) wisdom! For this reason, I find myself in the book of Proverbs almost daily!

Here’s something that really spoke to my heart yesterday:

My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment, do not let them out of your sight; they will be life for you… Then you will go on your way in safety and your foot will not stumble; when you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet” Proverbs 3:21-24.

thenSo many times in Scripture there is a “then.” Unfortunately we don’t always bother to go back and find out what the “then” is referring to. In these verses, from Proverbs, there is a “then” right in the middle, and IF we’re not careful, we will only remember what is promised and omit what is required. I was super tempted to do this myself… allow me to explain:   Continue Reading…

Silencing My Ignorance

EarBudsWe live in such a noisy world.

It’s hard to grasp pure silence anymore.

Yet, don’t we all long for it from time to time? … I know that I do.

Yeah, I’m known as a preacher | teacher | speaker – I do these things a lot. And when I do, I’m loud, loquacious, wordy and verbose. I know, I know, I even annoy myself at times. People say, “he’s a loud guy…” (or big mouth).

Get Your LEAD On!

Chilly —  January 28, 2013 — 8 Comments

Have you ever looked up ‘leadership‘ on I did, it came up with 91,864 results (just in books)! Wow! That’s a lot of opinions about such an important topic. Who’s right? Who’s WAY off? I certainly want to be a better leader ~ I’m sure we ALL do! But, where do you begin? There’s lots of conferences, books, blogs and videos – some free, others really expensive. There’s also the new wave of ‘coaching’ – people who feel they have reached a level of success, make themselves available to people not quite as successful (for a price, of course)… I’m not hatin’ on any of these things but I am concerned that we’re asking the wrong question or maybe we’ve got the right question but we’re asking the wrong person.

God knows about leadership.

Jesus knows about leadership.

The Holy Spirit knows about leadership.

~ have you asked them?

I’ve been thinking a lot about this… and, today, as I was reading Proverbs 21 something stopped me in my tracks! Check out verse 1 from the Message:

Good leadership is a channel of
water controlled by God; He directs
it to whatever ends He chooses.
Proverbs 21:1

Mean people spread mean gossip; their words smart and burn. 28 Troublemakers start fights; gossips break up friendships. Proverbs 16:27-28

Sometimes people aren’t very nice…

 including me.

We get those selfish moments where we are either supersensitive and we take everything too personal or we’re just the opposite, too calloused, and we fail to realize that we’re being a jerk. It happens… far too often for most of us.

It’s important during these glitches in our humanity to:
