Are you feelin’ me?

SaturdaySighIt seems that often, far too often, we “Christians” find ourselves over-our-heads in pity, condemnation, discouragement or doubt because of this little thing called: “feelings.”  We don’t feel like reading our Bibles, sharing our faith, going to church, etc.  Or, we don’t feel like anything is happening in areas where we need answers or miracles (me, right now) … So, we long for those times when we felt God in such a real way we thought we were going to explode!!

Feelings by their very nature are misleading. Surely you’ve felt something one day, only to feel nearly the opposite the next. I believe feelings and emotions are part of being a Christian and in being human in general, but God calls us to much more than that. God calls us to work. We certainly aren’t saved by works – as Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us – but we sure aren’t saved by feelings, either. We’re saved by God, and therefore should take Him seriously when he says, “faith without works is dead” (James 2:17). That means it’s possible for us to feel as though we have faith to move mountains, yet in reality it could be that we have the dead faith spoken of in James 2:17. God calls us to be and do rather than to simply feelHe calls us to have real faith instead of only emotional highs.

Best Plans

 … from my vacation journal

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you,” says the Lord. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land.” Jeremiah 29:11-14

God KNOWS my plan (even when I don’t)

  • its a good plan
  • it’s filled with hope

God HEARS my prayers (even when I doubt)

  • I must give my whole heart
  • I must search with all my strength

God HOLDS my purpose (even when I delay)

  • He’s preparing
  • He’s possessing

IMG_5216God’s BEST doesn’t happen IF I refuse to give Him my plans, my prayers and my purpose. I know that we say, “He knows best,” but I must live this truth daily! I must trust Him, die to self and obey His amazing plans!  And, like the sunrise, I must do this fresh and new every day!

“Relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done.” C.S. Lewis

“If you dig in and fight the changes, they will smash you to bits. They’ll hold you under, drag you across the rough sand, scare and confuse you. But if you can find it within yourself, in the wildest moment, to trust in the goodness of God, who made it all and holds it all together, you’ll find yourself drawn along to a whole new place. And there’s truly nothing sweeter than to unclench your fists, unlock your knees, and also the door to your heart; to take a deep breath and begin to swim. Begin to let the waves do their work within you.”  – Shauna Niequist

Sweet 16

Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to you for refuge. 2 I said to the LORD, “You are my Master! All the good things I have are from You.” 3 The godly people in the land are my true heroes! I take pleasure in them! Psalm 16

Kings HwySo many times we try to get an instant insurance policy from God when we are in a self-made mess. Come HERE we cry out! But friends, IF you want unshakable safety, come to God for refuge. Yes, learn to come to Him rather than insist on Him coming to you.  And what happens when you come to Him??

Boom! Like a brick to the cranium, you are again reminded “All”, yes ALL, “good things I have are from You!”

What’s the key to this discovery? Acknowledging: God, “You are my Master!”

Now, as you come to God and declare Him as your master, you will discover amazing earthly heroes who resemble your King of Kings! In a insecure world desperate for “role models” – we must raise up in Godliness – showing the way to truth. We must also fight to link arms with those warriors “ahead of us” that are leading a revolution of holiness with passion and purpose! YES, HEROES! Ask yourself a few questions…

– Who are the “godly people in the land” that are your “true heroes”?
Do they measure up to the eternal standards set by God? now, think about …
How have they blessed you? and, more importantly…
How have YOU blessed them recently?

… Yes, you’re very perceptive, homework comes with this study!! Continue Reading…
